Composer in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music

Ryan is delighted to be Composer in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music this year, strengthening his ongoing relationship with one of the UK’s leading conservatoires, and working closely with Academy performers and student composers.

Highlights include a concert on 8 October in the Angela Burgess Recital Hall, featuring three of Ryan’s chamber works – Horn Scale, Tillophix (a 200 PIECES commission) and C. Exigua – alongside music by Louise Drewett, Huw Watkins and Freya Waley-Cohen, and a world premiere by composition student Alessandro MacKinnon-Botti.

On 9 October, the Academy Manson Ensemble performs a programme of Ryan’s music, including Mills Mess, Moby Dick and Speaking of Letters and Dancing, conducted by Timothy Weiss with soprano Gabrielle Guiho. The programme also features Conlon Nancarrow’s Piece No. 2 for Small Orchestra and the world premiere of a new work by Academy composition student Luca Zucchi.

The programme also includes an in-conversation event with Ryan and the Academy’s Head of Composition, Philip Cashian, exploring his career and music.
